Its the 01st of May and I can't quite believe it, April just seemed to go by in a blink of an eye. Although I am not complaining I love the month of May, it is one of my favourite months of the year. I think of lovely temperatures, the evenings getting lighter, sunset pinks over the blue of Brighton sea, lots of Provence pink wines to be had, outdoor gatherings, and lots more outdoor living.

In addition, it has two bank holiday weekends, with the first upon us this weekend, what's not to love about the month of May?

May is one of the most exciting months in Brighton full of colour and excitement with the opening of the Brighton Fringe Festival and the opening of the artist's houses.

Opening of Artists Houses

The fun begins with this bank holiday weekend marking the opening of the Artist Open Houses which runs from the 04th May - 26th May, weekends only usually from 11-5pm.  For anyone who hasn't been to the Artist Open Houses before, it's where around 1500 talented artists and makers from Brighton and the surrounding area exhibit their work to the public.

Most of them opening their own homes or studios. Giving people the chance to meet the artists, chat about their artwork and of course you can buy the artwork directly from the artists. Lots of the Artists open their gardens too, offering light refreshments and snacks from teas and coffees to homemade cakes and afternoon teas. You also have the opportunity to look around some beautiful gardens.

Brighton Artist Houses

There are 14 individual trails you can follow, and maps can be found at various locations around the city or online. Let's hope for a sunny bank holiday but either way, what better way to spend a bank holiday than to do a trail of the Open Artist Houses.

'Among the changing months, May stands confest The sweetest, and in fairest colors dressed'.

James Thomson

I think this quote just sums Brighton up in the month of May.
